the glossy ibis

my fist sighting of the glossy ibis was a good one, there it was right in front of the window,there was at least 15 people taking shots of it,must be the most photographed bird in the north east

and rightly so.

TRIP TO THE INNER FARNE

All photos were taken on the Inner farne Island on July of this year,this was my second trip to the Islands the first being to Staple Island last year.

little sparrow: I am in my 50's.I work in the engineering trade as a c.n.c.turner. I've been with my partner Lynda for the past 17 happy years,(where does the time go.)I love bird watching and being out doors,I think that's because i've worked in a factory all my working life. My main patch is bigwaters,though far-pastures and thornley gets a few visits from me,but the best places by far, are the Cresswell and Druridge areas. Not forgetting Hauxley.

A HANDSOME LITTLE CALF

THIS IS ME AND MY MAAAAM

This shot was take from quit a distance away from the badgers,the location was in the Northumberland some wear,I am not at liberty to tell. watching them was a privilege,there was eight in total,in and out of the set chasing each other having fun by the looks of things,one of the best things iv seen for a long time.

GREY SQUIRREL (SCIURS CAROLINENSIS)

The grey squirrel,some nut from America introduced the grey to our land in the nineteenth century,not is it only detrimental to the red squirrel,it also strips bark from tree's damaging them, and raids birds nests.yes it is an attractive animal,kids love to see them,but my view is send the buggers back to America.

RED SQUIRREL (sciurus vulgaris)

The red squirrel is native to Britain,but now has been taken over by the grey squirrel,the red does not Hibernate so in autumn it must build up it's body fat to survive the winter.this one below is in no circumstances sharing his nuts.

These three foxes were take at thornley woods,but there is only one,look at the photos below, a little bit of fun in photoshop.

The brown hare is not as popular now as it was back in the 40's,intensive farming has reduced the population quit a bit.did you know the hare sometime eats its own dropping,because it still contains essential nutrients.

This chap was taken early one spring morning.Did you know there are approx 15million rabbits in Britain today,they were introduced into Britain in the Twelfth century.In the 50's numbers were reduced drastically through an outbreak of myxomatosis.

It took me a bit to get this photo,as you know the roe deer is very timid, and with a very good scene of smell,the shot was taken at Catcleugh Reservoir after storking it for one hour.

This is jess,what a little cracker she is,best behaved dog iv ever come across,she belongs to a friend of ours. aren't dogs lush.

this dog was lush ,so friendly,had to photograph her.

COMMON FROG (rana temporaria)

What can you say about the common frog,it's green,moves only by hopping,and can cover up to half a metre in a single jump.eats insects,slugs,and snails.Hibernates from October until February.the female lays one and two thousand eggs.the tadpoles hatch after two to four weeks.so there you go you can say a bit about the common frog,by the way aren't frogs lush.

BROWN RAT (rattus norvegicus)

This brow rat was at Bigwaters NR. He's not as big as some of the rats iv seen in Newcastle.He was filling his belly in the feed station.the noise of the camera I was using made him look up,you would of thought he would give me a smile.

WOOD MOUSE (APODEMUS SYLVATICUS

This little wood mouse gave use a visit the other day, he was cleaning up after the birds under the feed station,I hope to see a lot of him over the winter.

HARVEST MOUSE(micromys minutus)

took this little fellow at far-pasture,not a all shy,I was feeding him for about 10 min's before he went on his merry way.

ADDER (VIPERA BERUS)

This adder was spotted on the Cheviot hills on the 9 February 2008.He was basking in the early morning sun, warming up ready for his next meal.he was approx 24" long,and dark in appearance,this is because of the time of year so I am told, for the Hibernation period for the adder is between October and march,so this chap got out of bed early.

Iv got a fascination for taking shots of subjects in silhouette.This silhouette of a cormorant was take,in the tree next to the hide at shibdon pond.

AUTUMN

Leaves turn gold,the horse chestnut bears its fruit,wild guelder rosehips hang in ruby bunches and autumn is upon us. oats feed the house sparrows and for the goldfinch-thistle seeds.

MY CAMERA GEAR

The first digital camera I had was the Nikon D70,That was a cracking camera.I am now using the Nikon D300,This camera is spot on, The lenses I own are sigma 150x500mm HSM OS.-Nikon AF-S-VR 70-300F/4.5-5.6.IF-ED. 17x24mm I use this for my landscape shots,I don't own a macro lens as yet, hopefully next year will bring one for me.My dream lens would be The Nikon 200-400mm f4 G VR AF-S IF ED.At approx £4630.00 It will have to wait a until my numbers come up.

SOFT WATER

There's nothing more relaxing than seeing running water cascading down a stream,To photograph water to give a nice soft feel is quite rewarding.I love this shot,this was taken in northumberland,
